How to Create a Retro Bedroom

Bedroom decor has changed over the decades. I love the look of mixing retro items with some modern day necessities, while keeping the retro feel to my decor.

Below are some examples of bedrooms through the decades to use as an influence.

For my room I have decorated it in a vintage inspired retro style.

JH Lynch & Johnny Cash artwork & 50s wall vases & retro ornaments

50s bedroom chair that I covered in retro fabric and left the grey fabric on the skirts, flamingo light & retro style mirror

Some retro ornaments on shelves that we made by cutting into the wall

My moulin rouge style bedroom light on a hat box that I made into a bed side table by adding retro furniture legs, sourpuss tattoo print umbrella, sourpuss pillows & Sailor Jerry tattoo print quilt that I made by sewing the fabric to the centre of a black quilt (and my cat 🐱)

Vintage suitcase set stacked up which is useful for extra storage, vintage hairdryer, vintage sewing mannequin, Jolley Big eye prints, and reproduction circle shelves, retro style matching frames that I placed Marilyn Monroe movie posters in, which I purchased as an old movie poster book from a Salvos store.

For my daughters room, she wanted it decorated in a retro tiki vibe.

The quilt is a modern tropical theme with flamingos, palm trees and pineapples

I accentuated this peacock chair by painting it white then added flowers to go with the bedroom theme

Pops of colour through the room add the the look. I made an old suitcase into a bedside table by painting it and adding retro wooden table legs

More pops of colour

A round beveled edge vintage mirror, flamingo, tropical print & surfboard, bamboo tree and more colour add to the theme

A Cuban print and Barsony lampshade and to the accessories of the room

And a retro tiki room would not be complete without a kitch hula doll

Coconut containers with flowers attached, that I found in a St Vinnies store are handy containers for hair ties and clips
