Not Just Another Fly on the Wall…

There is a wide variety of retro wall collectables, and some of them are just adorable!  I have purchased a few over the years and I am still on the lookout for more unique ones, but who isn’t?

Retro black deer head with gold trims
This a very stylish piece and is still able to be infused within modern decor too.

Cameo Relief Wall plate
This is a stylish piece and looks stunning on my wall, with its contrasting pink to the red! I also love the textured feel of the dusty pink velveteen.

Retro flying swallows
You can find numerous replicas of these made today! They made a big comeback about 5 years ago, and were able to be found in so many homewares shops.

3D deer plate
This was purchased at a great price but I have seen it being sold at ridiculously high prices. So do shop around.

I just adore the 3d effect on the deer, squirrel, bird and trees. You can find a variety of designs in the 3D plates. So try find tone that relates to your theme or likes. There popularity was mainly in the 1970s.

Cameo Wall hanging
This is onlya small wall hanging compared to my other cameo wall hanging butI still really like the detail on it.  Cameo is a method of carving an object on an gem. Not sure of the history of either of my cameo wall arts, but I am still researching into it. So look out for it in my future blogs and the history of cameo brooches.

Retro flying elephant wall hanging
This is so cute! But I have seen that this actually comes in a three piece set, but unfortunately I have only one. Never mind I think it is quite unique.

These are wall hangings I am on the lookout for. I am hunting around for a great price on them! I really enjoy the hunt…

This is a Lefton Wall Lady. She is very lovely and an extremely hard to piece to find! To date, I have not seen this one but I am on the lookout. George Zoltan Lefton made china and porcelain creations from 1940 through to the 1990s.  But this a typical 1950s piece. You will know it is a real Lefton creation if it is stamped on it. But in later pieces, Lefton used stickers as his identifying marks. These may have deteriorated over time so may be less noticeable.

This is a Lefton ballerina set. I have seen this one twice and unfortunately did not get the opportunity to purchase them. I also did not realise the rarity of the items! However, I won’t lose the chance the third time…. hopefully third time lucky! I love this set and it is typical of Lefton’s 1950s work, such as the mermaid wall ceramics.

I also love these fish wall hangings. There are a lot of varieties of the fish, be they Norton, Bradley, Lefton, Norcrest or Holt Howard!

I am also on the lookout for a Norcrest Mermaid Set. I found a great pair of mermaids online that I am bidding on, and hope to purchase! Fingers crossed.

You also have your vintage mirrors, which can be a feature item on any wall! There are some stunning vintage mirrors available, where the intricate craftsmanship is still so evident. I especially love the ones with etched pictures and beveled edges.

The above photo show a creative way to incorporate vintage mirrors into your modern decor. These vintage hand mirrors were used as photo frames.

Retro wooden fork and spoon sets are another alternative to wall collectables that can be funky accessories for your kitchen! I remember my grandmother’s pair from when I was young. I love these ones. img_5910-e1505310092834.jpg These are huge and a feature on my kitchen walls[/caption]

Of course,  another great alternative is vintage artwork. My favourite artists include Roy Lichtenstein, Margaret Keane, Andy Warhol and JH Lynch. Look out for my future blogs on these retro artists!
