Valentines Day is here!Β πŸ’•

Valentine’s Day originated from a Christian celebration of the Feast of Saint Valentine. It is recognised as a significant cultural, religious and commercial celebration of romance.

Valentines developed in Roman times with Saint Valentine who was put in prison for performing weddings for soldiers, who were forbidden from marrying. He was persecuted under the Roman Empire, but before his death he restored sight to a blind girl and wrote her a letter that was signed Your Valentine.

St Valentine

My house is decorated, dinner is booked and gifts are wrapped. Now I just need to organise my outfit. I couldn’t find a dress I liked for the occasion so I decided to create one for Valentine’s Day.

I have a red dress that I purchased some time back but never seem to wear. I also purchased a panel of vintage Valentine images to sew on the dress.

Steps:

1. I cut the panel in half and sewed the edges

2. I decided to make the dress into a skirt. Simply, cut along the waist line and sew to tidy up!

3. Next I pinned the panel to the skirt. You can place the panels anywhere you prefer, on the skirt.

4. Next, I sewed the panels onto the skirt

Your other option is to make a 50’s style skirt or dress out of Valentine fabric, but I couldn’t find anything that I really liked so when I found this Valentines panel online I knew that is what I really wanted to use.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Valentines Day and it was spent with the one you love!
