Bettie Mae Page was a 50s icon. She was an American model and gained a significant profile as a 1950s pin up girl at a time when sexuality was repressed. Bettie appeared in many Burlesque films. She appeared as a centerfold in the January 1955 Playboy, one of the earliest, and soon shot to stardom and was on the walls in many male dominated areas. Bettie was a curvaceous lady with dark hair and blue eyes, but it was her short bangs that remained her trade mark. These bangs influenced hairstyles for generations. She remains a pop icon to today.

I have always liked the short rockabilly bangs but I was not too sure it would suit me, as I have such a big face! My friend, who is a hairdresser, told me that they wouldn’t sit right as I have a cowlick in my fringe. But I had to finally try it…. So I did!

And I love it!! Though I have very thin hair, I could still achieve the look. You can also purchase clip on bangs to add to the thickness (though I have not tried these)
They are really easy to look after too. After you wash your hair, you just blow dry them with a rolling brush. To stop my cowlick lifting my fringe, I just wear a clip in my fringe to help keep it down on the first night after washing. It usually lasts until the next wash but if it flattens after sleeping or after the gym then you can just spray the roots of your fringe with dry shampoo, and rub into the roots. This will give you a messy look! Then you use a fine tooth comb through the bangs. Grab your curling iron or a round brush and curl back around. They should be in a straight line and voilà!… Your bangs are ready!!!
